What an amazing weekend we had at Sovereign Hill. I hadn’t been since I was a kid so was really excited to go again. For the first three weeks of July Winter Wonderlights takes over Sovereign Hill every night when the sun goes down.
Winter Wonderlights is a light show projected onto the buildings around Main Street of Sovereign Hill. There’s little storylines to follow, and a gingerbread man to spot!
Here’s a little video to give you an idea…
So clever, hey?
The light show repeats itself every twenty minutes or so, so take your time and wander up and down the main strip and take it all in.
In addition to the lights show there are fairy lights galore around the little homes and school and along the side street. So very pretty.
Speaking of pretty… how about some “snow”. Ok it isn’t real snow, but the magic is there all the same. Fooled my kid!
The Christmas in July vibe is strong as you wander about. There’s Christmas foods to be had and delicious beverages… mulled wine anyone? Was delicious, as was the apple cider!
There are a number of dining options to suit most budgets, or BYO is welcome. We ate in the Christmas Marquee and found space to sit easily. There’s some free craft activities for the kids in the marquee also to entertain them while you wait for your food.
You can see Winter Wonderlights as part of your regular Sovereign Hill ticket, and the best part is you can come back the next day for FREE! We went on the Saturday night and saw all the lights, then returned on Sunday to enjoy all the day time activities at Soverign Hill; horse and carriage rides, candle dipping, the mine tour and gold panning. Oh and mulled wine is served in the day time too!
Winter Wonderlights will be running until July 22nd and was really pretty and magical and we all had a blast. I can’t wait to return again next year. For more info on the event click here.
Oh and don’t forget to rug up; it gets pretty chilly! Snowboots, gumboots, thick socks, hats and gloves (or decent pockets). Or… you could always warm them on another mulled wine #anyexcusewilldo
