Winter School Holiday Guide

Yay it is School Holiday time. No packed lunches, no school drop offs, just pj days and hot milos for all.  But if you are after a little adventure hopefully this guide will help get you on your way.

Here’s the categories… something for each day…

FREE: Zilch, zip, nada. This activity has no charge associated.
FIVER: Anything that costs more than $0 up to $10 per child/person
FANCY: Maybe choose one or two of these activities for special treats. They will cost you at least $10 each.

Click on the title of each for more info and/or to book. Keep in mind many of these events run over multiple days so don’t feel locked in to the dates below.

The First Week
Ok…you’re feeling good. You’ve (maybe) had a sleep in.  It isn’t raining, or maybe it is. But it is time to get out!

Monday 2nd July
FREE: Meet some real life Firemen!
Head to Hampton Park library to see a real truck and talk to some firemen!

FIVER: Stuff a bear for $8
Head to Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre for this school holiday bear making activity. There will be eight different designs to choose from including dragons, cats and jungle animals. No pre booking required.

FANCY: Vjunior SouthlandFountain Gate , Knox, Highpoint and Sunshine!
Visit the “Gold Class” of children’s cinemas these school holidays.

Tuesday 3rd July
FREE: JoJo comes to Eastland
With live musical performances and fashion parades, JoJo will debut her brand-new song “High Top Shoes” as well as perform other hit songs and showcase her range of fashion, accessories, stationery, toys and more

FIVER: Casey Safety Village 
Bring your bikes and scooters and let your kids learn about road safety at the safety village. We go every holidays and love it. Bookings essential.

FANCY: Dine with a Dinosaur at Amstel in Cranbourne
For only $17 per child (Adults free entry) kids will be entertained with an interactive dinosaur show and receive a kids meal and drink in bistro. These dinos are also popping down to Chelsea Heights and up to Doncaster, Follow Real Dinosaurs on facebook to keep an eye out.

Wednesday 4th July
FREE: Snow Play and Tobogganing at Mt Donna Buang
Dress in your (ALDI snow gear) best and head to Warbuton for free slopes to toboggan on. It is really well set out, with public toilets on site too. BYO all food/drinks, dress warm and bring a toboggan or hire on site (subject to availability)

FIVER: Get your craft on at Paint a Pot!
Smallest ceramics to paint start from about $8-10. Your kids can paint and enjoy the soft play area. I’d also recommend a yummy home made cake or the $5 kids plate.

FANCY: Wonderland at ACMI
Wander through the magic of Wonderland! Walk your way through over 40 years worth of film and television versions of Alice’s tale, with lots of interactive bits for kids too.

Thursday 5th July
FREE: Pot decorating and planting at Gardenworld
Get out your green thumbs and head to Braeside for some free gardening, and take home your plant at the end too.

FIVER: Mini Ninja Session
Head to the Lynbrook Commmunity Centre and challenge your inner ninja with problem solving and obstacle courses! Bookings essential.

FANCY: Mr Maker – Live on Stage!
He’s on tour, and his shapes have come along too! Check out this interactive show while it is in Melbourne.

Friday 6th July
FREE: Island Whale Festival on Phillip Island
Celebrate the whales’ migration by trying to spot one, or enjoy many other free or low cost activities over this 3 day weekend event.  If you’re feeling fancy, there are whale spotting cruises too.

FIVER: Create a burger, be a mini masterchef!
Head to Eastland to Huxtaburger and for just $5 learn how to make your own burger, and finish the class by making your own sundae too! Click here to book in (various days and sessions on offer)

FANCY: Design a handbag at MYER
 Aimed at kids 3-12 you get to design a handbag and/or necklace on an ipad then have it made up for you in real time. There’s a photo wall and fun props to really get your pose on afterwards. You can prebook, or just rock up to selected Myer locations. Handbags are $39.95, and necklaces are $19.95 or you can do both for $49.95. This actually looks super fun! Get an idea about it all here

You’ve got this!! Keep up the energy and make some great memories with your kids!

Monday 9th July
FREE: Family Yoga!
Grab the family and head to Bunjil Place to relax together.

FIVER: Transformers Show!
Book quickly this will sell out! See the Transformers show for just $5 at The Sands Hotel in Carrum Downs. Or for $12 get a show and a kids meal. Book here

FANCY: Circus Oz presents Precarious at the Botanic Gardens
Precarious unfolds through an ingenuous maze of phenomenal acrobatics, spectacular aerials, live music and physical comedy.  Fun for all ages!

Tuesday 10th July
FREE: Babies Sensory Time
Held at Cranbourne Library you can engage your baby with scarves, songs and shakers.

FIVER: Essendon Traffic School
Cranbourne a bit far? Check out the bike school over in Essendon. Open every day of the holidays.

FANCY: Gumbuya World
Take advantage of the reduced pricing at Gumbuya World these school holidays. We went recently and had a great time!

Wednesday 11th July
FREE:   Toddler Disco!
Best for ages 1-3, put on your dancing shoes and your sparkly tutus and head to Pakenham Library

FIVER: District Ice Slide
Head to the Docklands to slide down a 15m long tube slide made of ice. Gold coin donation to slide with all proceeds going to Kids Under Cover

FANCY: Kids Katy Perry (Tribute) Show!
Touring around Victoria on the 11th you can catch “Katy” in Seaford. With costumes, big vocals and dancing galore this is a must for any Katy fans.

Thursday 12th July
FREE: Decorate a cupcake at Karingal
Karingal Hub always do a great school holiday program. In the first week it is Peter Rabbit gardening themed activities and in the second week Dr Seuss. This week you can decorate a cupcake, listen at storytime and even have a meet and greet with the Cat in the Hat himself.

FIVER:  Eastland Snow Maze
Trek through the frozen forest, discover the snow filled igloo hideout, and navigate your way through the chill snowball pit. A gold coin donation is encouraged to support the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

FANCY: Lion Guard High Tea
If you want a fancy high tea, head to the Langham! If your child loves The Lion Guard or The Lion King they’ll be in heaven!

Friday 13th July
FREE:  Meet the Farm Animals.
Spend the morning out at Green Olive in Red Hill. Meet the animals, have a farm tour and maybe stay for a cheeky wine! Green Olive even has in-ground trampolines so your kids will love it.

FIVER: Little Red Train
At Wilson Botanic Gardens in Berwick there is a little red train choo-chooing about. Catch a ride for $6 if you’re 3+ or for free if 0-2 (adults ride for $6 too)

FANCY: Disney on Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic
Tickets are still available for most days for this magical ice spectacular! I can’t wait to go.
