Wally Tew Reserve is a lovely playground in Ferntree Gully that is worth a visit; even if you’re not local. This little gem of a play space had some of my favourite playground elements going for it, and kept our crew (two mums, five kids) happy for a few hours easily.
What’s to love?
Well firstly it is FULLY FENCED! Can I get an amen? Why aren’t all playgrounds fenced? Or at least the majority. I always smile when I go to the new playground to find gates. Woo!
There was a heap of shade. So many well established trees surround Wally Tew Reserve that wherever you wish to sit you will have shady options near by.
There’s a subtle bug theme through the playground. Missy Moo (3) and her 4yo buddy were musing over working out which ends of the sculptures were bug bottoms vs bug heads. You decide…
There are even toilets close by! Hooray! Also close by is the local library if the weather suddenly turns on you during your visit.
We also liked that the play area was large and uncluttered with many different things to climb, swings, and even a flying fox.
The playground also includes a liberty swing which is always nice to see.
Add Wally Tew Reserve to your playground visit list, pack a picnic and have a fab day out! Your kids will have a blast, and you won’t spend your day harassing them to wear a hat! Enjoy the shade and have fun.
