Melbourne Spring School Holiday Guide

Whether you like free adventures, or something a little fancy (paid), here’s my list of over twenty things to do these school holidays to suit every budget. So whether the sun is out, or it’s still a bit muddy there is plenty to keep your kids going these holidays.

So grab your cuppa, get out your diary, and start making a plan.

The First Week
Ok…you’re feeling enthusiastic. The weather is nice, your kids are behaving…let’s go.

Monday 25th September
FREE: Animals of Oz Kids Show
The live and interactive animal show will be on from 6:30-8pm at The Sands Hotel, Carrum Downs.

FANCY: Boneo Maze and Mini Golf
A beautiful place to grab a hot chocolate, with plenty of outdoor fun for the kids. The adventure zone is open for the holidays and looks like lots of fun for bigger kids (additional charges apply). No need to book, just turn up for  fun on bungee tramps, quad tramps, pedal boats and the rock climbing wall! Plenty of activities for the little ones too. A great day out!

Tuesday 26th September
FREE: Toddler Messy Play at Cranbourne library
Run by the City of Casey libraries this session your kids will get messy…dress accordingly.

FANCY: Kids’ Yoga at Cranbourne Botanic Gardens (Tarnuk Room)
For $9.90 kids get a yoga session, superfood snack and a native flavoured cordial!

Wednesday 27th September
FREE: Circus Show at Pakenham Library
Help Flash the Clown.. he needs your help to put on his show! Recommended 3+

FANCY: Casey Safety Village 
Bring your bikes and scooters and let your kids learn about road safety at the safety village.

Thursday 28th September
FREE: Free Mini Carnival at Cranbourne Home
Free rides, games, jumping castle, fairy floss, giveaways and more

FANCY: See Peppa Pig at the Tesselaar Tulip Festival
Heaps of great entertainment both weeks of the school holidays. Peppa Pig in week one, Trolls in week two. Kids free!

Friday 29th September
FREE: Meet the Farm Animals.
Spend the morning out at Green Olive in Red Hill. Meet the animals, have a farm tour and maybe stay for a cheeky wine! Green Olive even has in-ground trampolines so your kids will love it.

FREE: Ice Cream and Donut Festival in Preston
The long weekend never tasted so delicious with ice-cream, gelato, waffles, crepes, shakes and donuts all in the one place!

FANCY: Make your own Fairy or Dinosaur Garden
Hosted by Blossom Kids at The Hungry Peacock, these session look like heaps of fun. Basic or deluxe options available.

The Second Week
You might be starting to count down the days until holidays are over. Never fear, there is a heap more to keep you busy.

Monday 2nd October
FREE: Lysterfield Lake Spring Bio-Quest Challenge!
Grab your smart device, head outdoors and explore to find all the animals, plants and fungi you can. You don’t need to be an expert, just have a sense of curiosity.

FANCY: Donut decorating at Krispee Kremes in Narre Warren!
For $5.95 you get two original glazed donuts and all the toppings to go to town! Plus a bonus hat and balloon….woo hoo!

Tuesday 3rd October
FREE: Where’s Wally in Karingal
This sounds so fun! Head to the centre court to collect your game card, then visit the three murals around the centre to find Wally on your “Happiness Hunt”

FANCY: Vjunior Southland, Fountain Gate or at Knox (NEW)
Visit the “Gold Class” of children’s cinemas these school holidays.

Wednesday 4th October
FREE: Teddy Bears Picnic at The Old Cheese Factory in Berwick
Come on down to the Old Cheese Factory with your favourite teddy bear and go on a fun-filled adventure. Free entertainment by Hey Dee Ho Music, art and craft activities and a Teddy Bear Hospital to check up on Teddy’s health will also be on offer. Not free, but soooo cheap…. only a gold coin donation per family for entry to the event.

FANCY: Beauty and the Beast Movie Night in Pakenham
Tickets are $4 per person, or take advantage of the $9 snack deal per person (includes 1 ticket, a popcorn and a drink).

FANCY: Live Animal Show at the Drouin Family Hotel
A live educational and interactive reptile show with The Snake Handler. Cover charge of $10 per child includes their lunch, drink and entry into the show. Bookings essential on 5625 2066

Thursday 5th October
FREE: Wildlife Detective with Junior Ranges at the Dandenong Ranges
Junior Ranges runs so so many excellent and free programs during the school holidays all around Melroubne and beyond. Click here for a full list. Bookings essential.

FANCY: Harry Potter Care of Magical Creatures Class
The Little Shop of Horrors Costumery will be running Harry Potter themed workshops (and free story time) throughout the holidays. We recently went to the Potions class and had a great time. Read more about that here.

Friday 6th October
FREE: Wildlife encounters at Casey Central
On every day from Monday 2nd-7th you can learn about snakes, frogs, crocodiles & more!

FREE: Melbourne Pregnancy and Baby Expo
Great place to do a little *window* shopping or grab a bargain.

FANCY: Brickman experience
The Brickman Experience is a unique interactive exhibition of over 40 amazing models made from 5 million LEGO bricks! Under threes free.
