Breakfast in a hurry

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right? We’ve all heard it, we all know it, but sometimes the attraction of just five more minutes in bed snuggling with Missy Moo overrides my desire to have a hearty breakfast….and the next thing you know we’re running late!

Trying to rush a toddler is one of the most pointless activities you can do…it almost never works. Similarly, trying to hurry a toddler to eat breakfast probably won’t go in your favour. So I needed something fast, delicious, and easily managed by Missy Moo for our running late mornings, ideally something that doesn’t make a giant mess, and extra points if it could survive a car ride.

The answer…. Smoothies! We have a few favourites recipes that go down a treat and keep us full but I hadn’t really found an ideal smoothie cup for Missy Moo. She chews straws, takes lids off, shakes things, tips things, and is generally a bit clumsy with her drink bottles.

So I was pretty excited when recently Mamma Bee sent me a Subo “food bottle” to try out, and I have to honestly say it has been a game changer for our smoothie breakfasts.

The Subo bottle is designed for foods such as purees etc, but as Missy Moo is passed that stage I’ve been using it for yoghurt and smoothies. The subo bottle works perfectly for her.

The Subo bottle has a very large opening so it is easy for Missy Moo to get the smoothie through (even if there are a few lumps), and the design means she can only really make a mess with whatever food is left at the top of the bottle’s teat. The bottle can’t be squeezed but instead has a valve that lifts the food up and through the bottle.

So let’s talk about breakfast smoothies that we love!

Firstly, here is a video I made recently of our favourite smoothies…the Berry Banana-rama!

Berry Banana-rama (in video)

  • 1 cup frozen berries,
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup milk (a little more if too thick)
  • 1 cup yoghurt
  • 1/2 cup oats.
